Solid brass stem on a round base under a tapered off-white linen shade, 14 inches tall. The switch is a toggle on the base rather than a rocker partway down the cord.
That is the whole argument for it. A switch in a fixed place can be found without opening your eyes; a switch on a cord has to be located first.
The shade tapers rather than running straight, which throws more light down onto a nightstand and less across the room at someone still asleep.
